Many strings to bow of guitarist

Classical guitar music from the renaissance era all the way through to the 20th century will be performed for the town of Pemberton this month.

Don Neander has always loved performing in country towns and said he had already played in quite a few around WA.

“I was playing in Margaret River recently and someone suggested to me the Mill Hall has good acoustics for classical music,” he said.

“I am playing in Busselton on the Friday and thought it would be good to stay in Pemberton the next day and decided to give a recital while I am there.”

He said he had visited Pemberton 15 years ago and was excited to be able to come back and perform in the town as he had enjoyed his previous visit.

His music is inspired by many different composers but his style of concert is a traditional one he grew up with. “I will start by playing some renaissance and baroque music originally written for the lute and then progressing through the periods of classical guitar music to the 20th century, a style I grew up hearing in concerts,” he said.

“I love playing for country audiences as they are very appreciative and more often than not, I find classical guitar students who live locally and attend are grateful that they haven’t had to travel miles to hear someone play.”

The Mill Hall concert will be on January 19 at 7.30pm.

Classical guitar player Don Neander will come to Pemberton to perform.
