Eagles girls give their best all weekend
THE Mansfield under 16 basketball girls went to the Wodonga Junior Basketball Tournament with high hopes of going one step better from the previous tournament they attended there.
With their first game against Deniliquin, the girls put in a team effort where they all played well and came out on top with a six point win and confidence to boot.
Mansfield 19 to Deniliquin 13.
After a six hour wait until the next game the heat had started to affect the girls as they lined up for their game against Myrtleford.
The first half wasn’t their best as they let Myrtleford take control, leading quite comfortably for most of the game.
However, the girls dug deep with 10 minutes to go whittling away at the score.
As the clock ticked away with mere seconds left they were within a point, but luck wasn’t with them and Myrtleford went on to win by that solitary point, Myrtleford 17 to Mansfield 16.
An hour and a half later in the evening their last game was against Echuca.
This game was going to test them as Echuca was a rough team who didn’t mind dishing out a hard contest.
The girls matched it with them for the first half with the score very close.
In the second half the physical toll was starting to show as the girls started to make basic mistakes letting Echuca run away with the game, Echuca 24 to Mansfield 10.
On Sunday the team fronted up in the morning against Tumut for the last game.
The girls all set themselves a goal that they could individually achieve, and they all had a red hot go at it.
The score might have been in favor of Tumut but it did not reflect what happened on the court.
Mansfield gave Tumut a hard fought match even though it was a loss, and the beaming smiling faces when they finished just showed how much they enjoyed the games and comradeship between them. Tumut 23 to Mansfield 9. It was a great weekend thanks to the following girls Tilly Appleby, Shannon Cameron, April Lachal, Rose Hood, Chloe Morrow, Caitlin Wilcox and Bethany Vogelzang.
