Alice in equine wonderland

JUNIOR equestrian team Alice Marshall and her horse Glitz from Booroolite must think the horse eventing caper is pretty easy.

Together they entered their first ever horse riding events at the Tolmie Sports, and came away with two firsts, a second, and overall junior champion.

According to mum Karen, 10-yearold Alice has only recently taken up horse riding, with a new horse (six year old Glitz), and the Tolmie Sports was the first time they had competed in any equestrian event.

Alice and her striking white pony came second in the Junior Bending race, first in the Barrel, first in Musical Mats, and were declared winners of the Brian Davies Trophy, Champion Junior Rider.

Mrs Marshall said it was particularly emotional to see her daughter win the trophy, as Alice is the granddaughter of Brian Davies who passed away a couple of years ago.

“I think she must have had a bit of help from above with Grandad looking down, and no doubt he would have been delighted at the result,” said Mrs Marshall.

Alice is now very keen to continue riding with Glitz, and is joining Mansfield Pony Club so she can enjoy regular riding outings, develop her skills further, and most importantly have fun.
