Gerrans on to next stage
HAVING had a great summer on the roads in Australia, Mansfield born cyclist Simon Gerrans has now headed back to Europe for the next stage of his busy year.
A win in the National Road Race championships and the Tour Down Under, saw Gerrans head into the Herald Sun Tour (HST) a clear favorite.
However, things were not to be and a win in the HST eluded him.
“I played a bit of a different role than I’ve played in the recent past, and I really enjoyed it,” he said.
“It made me happy to return a favor to Simon (Clarke) for what he’s done for me as a teammate.
“He’s been an integral part of so many of my wins and a huge supporter of mine, so it was really good to do for him what he’s done for me in the past.”
After such a busy month of racing, Gerrans has now packed up his bags and headed back home to Monaco.
“Firstly, I’m going to have a bit of a rest and take a little bit of time to unwind and reset from the past four weeks,” he said.
“I’ll start training again with my next real goal in mind the Spring Classics.
“As part of my preparations, I’m racing Camorie in a few weeks time and Paris-Nice to build up for the first of the Classics, the Milan – San Remo.
As he tweeted on his departure, “Thanks for a great summer Australia! It’s time to head back to Europe. See you again at the end of the season.”
