Mansfield junior footy moves forward

Mansfield Courier - - SPORT - By PETER HUNT

AN information night was held last week for players and parents to find out about the new arrangements for the 2014 season.

Mansfield will be fielding one under 16 and one under 14 team in the Wangaratta and District Junior Football League.

It is anticipated that the younger age groups who play at Lords will be under 10 and under 13.

“Each round will see us take a squad of 26 to the game and all will get at least half a game,” president Bo Christopher said.

“The new league is very strict on uniform and if players do not wear the Eagles jersey, approved white shorts and Eagles socks the club will be fined.

“The first game will be on March 30 at Glenrowan.”

There will be seven Sunday games in the season of 18 rounds.

“The under 14s will play at 12 noon on a Sunday followed by the under 16s at 2.30pm,” Christopher said.

“For Saturday games the times are 10.30am and 12.30pm.”

A special feature this season will be the match on May 31 against Benalla - this will be at home under lights on the Saturday night.

Christopher also unveiled the coaching structure for the season.

This included Stephen Marks as under 16 coach assisted by Dion Sheahan with James Nation as manager, and Bill Lines as under 14 coach assisted by Ken Murray with Rochelle Roberts as manager.

“Also new this year is sponsorship,” Christopher said.

“Both Markes IGA and Betta Home Living have signed on to sponsor the under 16s and under 14s respectively.”

Training will be at the recreation reserve on Tuesdays and Thursdays until Lords is free of cricket.
