Old Tolmie Road bridge upgrade is almost done

Mansfield Courier - - NORTHEAST PROPERTY - By RICHARD JAGO

A LOW level bridge on the Mansfield side of the Broken River on the Old Tolmie Road is being refurbished by Mansfield Shire Council staff t o r emove bumps from the road surface.

The bridge was built in 2008/09 and broadened from the previous bridge to accommodate vehicles from both directions.

Council’s senior civil engineer, Amer Taufik, said there had been some issues with the approaches to the bridge, where the soil underneath the road was quite wet.

He said the drains contained moisture and had not allowed the water to escape from the bridge.

The fill underneath the roadwork was excavated and replaced with crushed rock to allow a freer path for the water to move away, and some posts have already been replaced.

The present work was to have been finished by last Friday, but delays with the asphalt meant it could not be completed until yesterday.
