Bombers set to fly this season
BONNIE Doon Football Club is looking great for the coming season.
With the first of several practice matches under its belt on Saturday, the team with a lot of new recruits is aiming high.
New seniors coach Terry Mahoney said the club had picked up about 18 new players from across the region including Shepparton, Yea, Mansfield and some locals.
With approximately 40 players already registered the club is confident it will field two teams – a seniors and reserves – each Saturday.
Among the new recruits are Danny Hazelwood from United Undera, Heath Vidock and Jackson Charles also from Undera, Rob Rowe from Lancefield, Doug Aldous from Yea and Chris Anderson from Mansfield.
“Our aims are to become more competitive and to be a place that other clubs like to enjoy to play at,” Mahoney said last week.
“We want to be a club that others look up to.”
The first match of the season will be against Whorouly on March 29 and will be away from home.
“I am happy with the mix of travelling and local games,” Mahoney said.
“We have also had a good pre-season training and all players are l ooking forward t o a good year.”
On April 25, Anzac Day, the Bombers will play a home match where a short commemoration service will be held before the start of the game at 1pm.
