Bombers set to fly this sea­son

BON­NIE Doon Foot­ball Club is look­ing great for the com­ing sea­son.

With the first of sev­eral prac­tice matches un­der its belt on Satur­day, the team with a lot of new re­cruits is aim­ing high.

New se­niors coach Terry Mahoney said the club had picked up about 18 new play­ers from across the re­gion in­clud­ing Shep­par­ton, Yea, Mans­field and some lo­cals.

With ap­prox­i­mately 40 play­ers al­ready reg­is­tered the club is con­fi­dent it will field two teams – a se­niors and re­serves – each Satur­day.

Among the new re­cruits are Danny Hazel­wood from United Un­dera, Heath Vi­dock and Jack­son Charles also from Un­dera, Rob Rowe from Lance­field, Doug Al­dous from Yea and Chris An­der­son from Mans­field.

“Our aims are to be­come more com­pet­i­tive and to be a place that other clubs like to en­joy to play at,” Mahoney said last week.

“We want to be a club that oth­ers look up to.”

The first match of the sea­son will be against Whorouly on March 29 and will be away from home.

“I am happy with the mix of trav­el­ling and lo­cal games,” Mahoney said.

“We have also had a good pre-sea­son train­ing and all play­ers are l ook­ing for­ward t o a good year.”

On April 25, An­zac Day, the Bombers will play a home match where a short com­mem­o­ra­tion ser­vice will be held be­fore the start of the game at 1pm.
