Man killed in Main­ton­goon fire

ALEXAN­DRA Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion Unit is in­ves­ti­gat­ing the death of a 73-year-old man on Satur­day af­ter­noon.

John Sten­house died in a fire at Main­ton­goon Road, 8km from Alexan­dra ear­lier on Satur­day evening.

Po­lice were no­ti­fied of the fire on a property around 5.20pm.

The body of Mr Sten­house was lo­cated in a burnt out bungalow by po­lice and Coun­try Fire Author­ity mem­bers just be­fore 6pm.

A sec­ond per­son, a woman is her late 50s, who was orig­i­nally unac­counted for, was later lo­cated safe and well.

There were no other in­juries re­ported.

De­tec­tive Se­nior Con­sta­ble Andrew Dun­stan said po­lice were treat­ing the in­ci­dent as non-sus­pi­cious.

CFA units from Alexan­dra (ur­ban and ru­ral) and Yarck at­tended the fire.

Po­lice will pre­pare a re­port for the Coroner.
