Award presentations round off a successful cricket season
WITH the presentation ceremonies completed for Delatite Cricket Club and the Benalla and District Cricket Association (BDCA), the 2013/14 season has come to a conclusion.
Delatite players featured prominently in awards given out at the BDCA evening.
Rumesh Ranasinghe won the best bowling averages category in the home and away season in division one, taking 25 wickets at an average of 9.88.
Delatite division one captain, Andrew Startin, took out the fielding trophy with 11 catches and three run outs.
In division two, James Bartlett comprehensively won the best wicketkeeper award with 11 catches to which he added another five during the finals series.
Matt Stevenson was voted as the best player in Benalla’s Melbourne Country Week campaign.
Based on the home and away games plus finals performances, Delatite’s presentations saw Andrew Startin win the club’s division one batting and fielding awards while Matt Stevenson was best bowler.
For the division two side, captain Aaron Madsen was adjudged as both best batsman and bowler, while James Bartlett clearly took the fielding award.
The Captain’s Award in division one went to James Cousins and to Aran Maloney in division two.
Oliver Pearson was a popular winner of the Best First Year Player trophy, with Tylar Smith taking great strides this season to win the Most Improved Player award.
The club champion trophy was a close run affair between the two captains with Aaron Madsen just edging out last season’s holder Andrew Startin.
No one managed a century this season, but best bowling performances went to David Foster 5/18 and Colin Godber 5/25.
Madsen created a hat trick sensation whereas the uncoveted Duck award went to Rohan West.
Delatite Cricket Club is fortunate to have a wonderful set of volunteers.
Naomi Campbell and Tammy Purcell were recognised for their wide-ranging assistance throughout the season while Paul Duncan and Tony Fraser received accolades for their scoring efforts.
The club is appreciative of the great support from its sponsors Alpine Butchery, Marks IGA, Robbo’s Glass, BP Roadhouse, Mansfield Plumbing, Carey’s Paint Place and Bill Sykes (MLA, Benalla).
