Major intersection upgrades to start

-

MANSFIELD Shire Council is undertaking improvement works at two of the shire’s major intersections.

The first is the corner of the Mansfield Whitfield Road and Mt Battery Road.

As part of council’s endorsed heavy vehicle bypass, and to link with the newly constructed Greenvale Lane, the intersection will be upgraded to improve safety and vehicle access.

An auxiliary lane on Whitfield Road for traffic heading southbound and turning east into Mt Battery Road will be constructed and the box culvert on Mt Battery Road will be extended to cater for the larger turning radius of heavy vehicles.

To further assist with the turning movements of heavy vehicles including B-doubles, the high cross fall on the western side of the intersection will be reduced.

The High Street and Chenery Street intersection will be the location of a new roundabout.

Works are expected to commence later this month weather permitting.

“Extensive planning and design work is required as well as the relocation underground of various utilities which will take some time to com- plete,” said chief executive officer, David Roff.

“The project, l argely f unded by VicRoads, would i deally be completed before Easter but this is dependent on weather and other logistical factors,” he said.

Road users are asked to seek alternative routes while works are in progress and can expect some delays during the construction phase of both projects.
