Dates announced for Stock & Land Beef Week 2016


FOLLOWING what has been rated as the best Stock & Land Beef Week ever, dates have been set for Beef Week to run from Wednesday, January 27 to Thursday, February 4, 2016.

This gives studs the opportunit­y to consider their sale dates and make arrangemen­ts for their 2016 bull selling program ac- cording to Beef Week director Geoff Phillips.

Beef Week 2016 will mark 25 years since the event started with 50 studs in 1992.

It now regularly tops 200 studs with most using it as their major marketing exercise.

Beef Week 2016 will open on Wednesday, January 27 in the north-east Riverina, move to the south-east Riverina the next day and then cross the Murray for day 3 in North East Victoria on Friday, January 29.

Days 4 and 5 around Melbourne will be over the weekend and then it’s off to East Gippsland for day 6, Monday, February 1.

It’s then over to the busy two days in the Western District finishing up with day 9 on Thursday, February 4 covering the Goulburn Valley and the western Riverina.

“This year we had many visitors travelling through all the days which indicates the importance of the event,” said Mr Phillips.

“We had reports of outstandin­g bull sales during Beef Week but we estimate another 4000 bulls were on display to be sold at the autumn bull sales which are now in full swing.”

T h e RASV Be e f Week Heifer Challenge, which involves t he j udging of pens of 10 registered heifers, has created additional visits t o studs that enter with visitors keen to discover the standard of females that will progress into the stud herd and produce the bulls of the future.
