Third Age to visit shrine

-

THE Mansfield University of the Third Age is hosting a tour to the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne on Monday, March 30.

Open to everyone, not just U3A members, the tour is a great opportunity to visit this piece of history on the eve of the Anzac centenary celebrations.

Departing Mansfield at 8am sharp, the tour costs just $10 for members and $25 for non-members, with payment appreciated in advance.

The actual t our of t he shrine building will take place at 11am and run for 45 minutes, with a visit to the new exhibitions, located underneath, afterwards.

It is just one day out for U3A members who will spend the next 12 months studying World War One and its aftermath.

U3A is a program of interest for retirees who enjoy extending their learning without the pressure of exams or markings, making for a fun and enjoyable way to learn in a social environment.

The group credits themselves as providing an opportunity to extend the brain and learn something more about the world in which we live, in an atmosphere of recreation and friendship.

Meeting on the first and third Monday of the month at 10am for a morning tea prior to a 10.30am start, U3A covers a different topic every week.

This year the group is looking at many aspects of the Great War, including soldiers’ letters and diaries, the influence of the influenza epidemic, how armistice is not defeat and even a movie presentation of The Water Diviner.
