Rookies finish season on a high note

EACH bowls season, Mansfield Bowls Club runs a Monday night competitio­n called Rookies.

This past season some 16 teams played over nine weeks through December and February i ncluding a number of families and beginners to bowls.

A lot of fun and improved skill levels concluded with finals being played on Monday, March 2, between the Eager Ninjas of Tom Nicol, Kerri Nicol and Terri Kilpatrick against Plus Ones of John Bugden, Grant Scales and Steve Chisholm.

In the other match Tripods team of Claude Skvor, Ann Wileman and Colleen Leeds (filling in for Kay Skvor who took ill on the day) played Tolmie Velvets comprising of Jason Mathews, Danni Schneider and Mark Mason.

Eager Ninjas and Tripods prevailed and played off in the grand final, with the Ninjas winning with three people who had never played bowls until the past 12 months.

Congratula­tions to the winners and everyone who took part in the series.

A new Monday night family social game will c o mmence a t 7 p m o n March 16.

New players will be welcome as coaching and bowls will be provided.
