Lots of times bettered in cooler weather

- By SUSAN McCORMACK

THE weather was a little cooler for little aths this week, which was a bonus for the older age groups as they had the 1500m as a track event for the night.

On the track we started off with the 60m hurdles, the under 8s showed that their rhythm has improved over the season with Sam Guppy, Luka Valente, Coralie Edwards and Phoenix Lachal all lowering their fastest time by at least a second.

Under 6s and 7s then tackled the shorter 60m sprint with Chloe Edwards and Jesse Murphy showing great speed reducing their best times by over one second.

In the 100m Cody Azzopardi and Thomas Huber had a great battle finishing with their best times for the season and only 0.2s between them.

The 1500m was perhaps an event of extremes - there were some who were happy to enjoy a jog and a chat, finishing off with some acrobatics across the line, but well respected for their participation.

Then there were the likes of Tynan Mims and Britney Allen who both recorded another personal best and centre record; also noted for their fantastic personal best performances were Harry Murakami, Lachie Lamont and Ebony McNamara.

On the high jump mats it was a fairly short night, the under 6s had great fun working on their techniques with plenty of interesting styles still at play.

In the shot put pits muscles were flexed and some great throws were recorded.

Prabhjit Sandhu, Molly Stow, Isabel Peterson and Andrew Thomson all increased their best by at least 30cm.

At the discus the under 7 boys enjoyed a great night with every competitor recording their best throw for the season.

Gisselle Nichols and Alyssa Lamont also had their best throws.

The overage group also had the javelin with Brooke Mullins and Monica Jagger having their best throw for the season.

Leaping into the sand, Harrison Van Winden and Elyssa Hardiman co-ordinated their triple jumps perfectly landing further from their take off than they ever have before.

Sam Guppy flew through the air in the long jump landing just a little short of a centre record.

The Mansfield Pizza Award goes to Tynan Mims for two PBs and a great centre record, achievement awards for their PB performances are Elly Chamberlain, Noah Lachal, Coralie Edwards and Thomas Huber.

Remember this Friday is our last for the season so we are looking forward to seeing everyone in their fancy dress.
