Merton run feast against Goorambat

ON Saturday the Merton boys travelled to Benalla to take on Goorambat in the penultimate round before the finals.

Merton won the toss and elected to bat on the small Arundel Street ground with Chris Anderson and Adrian Ziedins opening the batting.

The boys started quickly and runs began to flow with Anderson reaching his 50 quickly, and Ziedins not far behind with his 50.

At the drinks break the openers had created a platform to launch from, and launch they did.

Anderson unleashed some power hitting to all areas of the ground to bring up a well-deserved 100, before being out in the 33rd over for 136.

Ziedins was a little slower to reach triple figures, but managed to carry the bat for the entire 40 overs and finish on a sensational 149no.

The partnership was a very massive 253 for the first wicket, and got Merton to a huge score of 1 for 317 off the 40 overs.

The run chase started well for Goorambat with 12 off the first over, but from then on the wickets fell in quick succession.

Jarod Cummins continued his hot form with another five wicket haul with fast accurate bowling.

Andrew ‘Titch’ Lockhart got the remaining four wickets from the other end.

Merton sits on top of the ladder with one round to play and takes on Tatong at Tatong this week.
