GVFL heads towards season’s end
WE are heading into the final four rounds of the competition and while most supporters think the final six (in relation to who is in there) is set, Mooroopna are still in with a chance to snatch a spot.
Finals are an exciting time of year - it’s the business end of the year where we see some quality games of football being played by very good teams right across the board.
All three competitions (seniors, reserves and u18s) will be played in a hard and fair manner with the best team coming out on top in that first Sunday in October.
I would like to say thanks to all the volunteers who have been helping their clubs out since the start of the year (which we know usually starts November of the previous year) and implore you to keep working hard and strong over the next couple of weeks.
I would also like to congratulate our two nominees (so far) Matty Caraffa (Shepparton Football Netball Club) and Baden Edmondstone (Benalla Football Netball Club) for the Volunteer of the Year award.
We are looking for three more to round out the year so get your nominations into your club to send to the league.
The first two weeks of finals will be held at Benalla, Euroa, Echuca, Mooroopna and Rochester, with the actual structure and allocation of finals to be decided closer to the end of the home and away season.
The last two weeks of the season are played at Deakin Reserve with the league and board facilitating the day to ensure those volunteers that have clubs playing on the day can watch the football and support their team.
As a board we look for support from some volunteers to help assist to make sure these two finals (preliminary and grand) are managed in a very high standard.
With the assistance of the operational arm (AFL Goulburn Murray staff) some roles are filled, but we would still like some assistance from volunteers even if it is only for the one game.
We will be looking for help with time keeping, scoreboard attendants, interchange steward, umpire escort among others, so if anyone out there in club land is willing to assist can you send an email to Simon Devine at si[email protected] aflgoulburnmurray.com.au.
I again want to thank all club volunteers for their help and support in ensuring this league continues to go from strength to strength and I, like everyone else, am looking forward to a fantastic finals series.
Good luck to all clubs for the remaining four weeks and please get out and support your team irrespective of where they are on the ladder.
