Eagles reserves close
THE mighty Mansfield Reserves headed off to play the top of the ladder Benalla Saints on Saturday in finals type weather football.
The boys had not lost in two months but were keen to see where they sat in the pecking order.
Benalla were the better structured team for the first half showing a willingness to work hard both ways and work hard for each other.
The Eagles went into halftime and re-structured with Mitch Gleeson and Rohan Swan going into the middle, Guy Taylor going back to their best forward and Benny Vogel- zang getting up the ground at times to give the Benalla lads something to think about.
Dale Ayres bobbed up with three goals, Sean ‘Puff’ Purcell kicked two and all of a sudden midway through the last quarter Mansfield were within a couple of kicks.
Jamie Carns played a great game on a wing and is a delight to watch, r unning and bouncing t he ball through the middle of the ground bursting through holes that don’t seem to be there.
The end margin was 13 points which shows the team that with five players still playing in the seniors, they are eligible to come back first week of the finals - the dream is still alive and September success is not out of reach.
Thanks to everyone who puts in each week. Go Eagles.
FULL EFFORT: Ben Martin shows a willingness to put in the hard yards to win the ball.
