Ravens attacking lambs at Tolmie

Mansfield Courier - - PROPERTY - By PETER HUNT

A RECENT story ( Mansfield Courier, August 17) regarding the problems John Hawkes was having with ravens attacking his lambs, has elicited a reply from Suzi Shaw from Tolmie.

In one week recently, she had some six lambs killed.

In her experience, she found lambs with a single spike mark through the head, but the eyes had been taken.

This was a slightly different scenario to Mr Hawkes’.

“I have never seen this before,” Ms Shaw said.

“At times this season I have seen 50 to 60 birds in the paddock at one time.

“This is different to past seasons and like John I have had to move new lambs into the barn.”

However, as Ms Shaw added, what do you do when you are not around to protect them?
