CWA birds of a feather

Mansfield Courier - - COURIER | OPINIONS/PEOPLE -

SISTER CWA branches Mansfield and Beechworth joined together recently to enjoy a delicious “Chooks & Eggs” luncheon to appreciate the resource for 2016, which changes each year.

An in-depth presentation by a local Beechworth year 11 student, Maisie, a young egg producer, was most fascinating as all attending compared the freshness of six week old eggs to day old, the roundness of the yolk being a telling feature.

The rich protein content makes eggs a great source of nutrition and their inclusion forms a key ingredient to so many recipes making them a versatile addition in any pantry.

Maisie covered her particular feeding regime and how she crushes the shells and feeds them back to her chooks for their calcium intake in combination with a healthy outdoor habitat, producing her healthy, happy clucky hens, and one very proud rooster.
