36 year centre record broken at little aths
THE night was slightly warmer but perfect for little athletics.
After congratulations for the previous week’s Mansfield Pizza Award winner, Jack Marks and star of the week Amy Les, everyone was eager to get started.
The track started off with 80m hurdles, and there were some great races, in particular Jack Marks showed great style and speed.
For the 100m the under 7 boys were a highlight, Sam Stoney speeding down the track, finishing with a time a quarter of a second faster than the centre record which has stood since 1980. Sam is our star of the week. For the longer distance of 800m the two fastest times came from under 16 Ewan Gunn and under 10 Sam Guppy, with Arabella Green also running a fabulous race.
Over at discus, Bryn Chandler and Seth Leitch both recorded a really big throw.
Not to be outdone by her big brother, Mikhela Leitch flexed her muscles at the shot put and also had a big throw.
At the high jump mats the under 11 girls had really tight competition with Isabel Petersen showing great form, while Brayden Van Winden and Angus Howie continued their rivalry with Angus just coming out on top.
Leaping into the sand the under 9s worked really hard at their rhythm and co-ordination.
Having their first go at triple jump Amy Les and Oscar Guppy got it all worked out and Lachlan Lamont recorded a pretty big leap.
In long jump, leaping a good 40cm further than anyone else on the night was Sam Guppy.
The Mansfield Pizza award this week goes to an athlete who showed all the qualities of fair competition that we try to instil in our athletes.
She t ripped on one of t he hurdles but picked herself up and finished the race.
In the 100m she asked the place she had been given be changed as she stated that the athlete given the place behind her had been clearly in front of her, and at her first go at triple jump she listened, practised and learned recording a fabulous jump.
Congratulations Genesis Petersen.
