Ladies golf flourishing in Mansfield
LADY members at Mansfield Golf Club conducted their annual general meeting last Wednesday, with a number of new committee members taking office for the 2017 year.
Outgoing president Louise Calvert-Jones described the past year as a ‘happy and productive one’.
Ms Calvert-Jones alluded to the amount of travel the ladies do in the course of the year to compete at other golf courses, with wins in this year’s Summer Pennant and divisions one and two wins in the North East Pennant season.
The success of the ladies’ year was amply illustrated when the Mansfield Bowl was held, with t eams from 22 different clubs braving the stormy weather to attend.
Ms Calvert-Jones thanked the local businesses which sponsor events that are staged over the year.
In particular, she thanked Anne Blampied from Leading Appliances, who have sponsored the prizes for the Mans- field Bowl for the past 10 years.
Other significant events from the year included the Opening Day, bingo night and raffle for the Anti-Cancer Council, and the Hospital Auxiliary Golf Day, which raised more than $25,000 for the local hospital.
Thanks were also expressed to the Range View Restaurant for their help with functions and general manager of the club Chris Anderson for his work in raising the profile of the club through marketing initiatives.
“It is through these initiatives that memberships have not only been maintained, but have continued to grow,” Ms CalvertJones said.
Concluding her speech, Ms Calvert-Jones thanked the members of the outgoing committee for their work.
She described the year as ‘brilliant’ and said that among other clubs, Mansfield is ‘the envy of the North East’.
Outgoing treasurer Linda Terry delivered the report for the year, which saw the ladies’ committee making a healthy profit of $1815.45.
Finances will be organised differently next year, with a sharing of finances between the club’s management and the ladies’ committee.
The new committee for 2017 was announced, with Glenis Skinner taking on the role of ladies’ president, Linda Terry as captain, Nikki Coffey vicecaptain, Marion Mitchell secretary and committee members Donnalee Ross, Lesley Anderson, Judy Campbell and Sheryl Sargent.
The positions of vice-president and treasurer will be filled at a later date from the committee.
