Ladies golf flour­ish­ing in Mans­field

LADY mem­bers at Mans­field Golf Club con­ducted their an­nual gen­eral meet­ing last Wed­nes­day, with a num­ber of new com­mit­tee mem­bers tak­ing of­fice for the 2017 year.

Out­go­ing pres­i­dent Louise Calvert-Jones de­scribed the past year as a ‘happy and pro­duc­tive one’.

Ms Calvert-Jones al­luded to the amount of travel the ladies do in the course of the year to com­pete at other golf courses, with wins in this year’s Sum­mer Pen­nant and di­vi­sions one and two wins in the North East Pen­nant sea­son.

The suc­cess of the ladies’ year was am­ply il­lus­trated when the Mans­field Bowl was held, with t eams from 22 dif­fer­ent clubs brav­ing the stormy weather to at­tend.

Ms Calvert-Jones thanked the lo­cal busi­nesses which spon­sor events that are staged over the year.

In par­tic­u­lar, she thanked Anne Blampied from Lead­ing Ap­pli­ances, who have spon­sored the prizes for the Mans- field Bowl for the past 10 years.

Other sig­nif­i­cant events from the year in­cluded the Open­ing Day, bingo night and raf­fle for the Anti-Cancer Coun­cil, and the Hos­pi­tal Aux­il­iary Golf Day, which raised more than $25,000 for the lo­cal hos­pi­tal.

Thanks were also ex­pressed to the Range View Restau­rant for their help with func­tions and gen­eral man­ager of the club Chris An­der­son for his work in rais­ing the pro­file of the club through mar­ket­ing ini­tia­tives.

“It is through th­ese ini­tia­tives that mem­ber­ships have not only been main­tained, but have con­tin­ued to grow,” Ms CalvertJon­es said.

Con­clud­ing her speech, Ms Calvert-Jones thanked the mem­bers of the out­go­ing com­mit­tee for their work.

She de­scribed the year as ‘bril­liant’ and said that among other clubs, Mans­field is ‘the envy of the North East’.

Out­go­ing trea­surer Linda Terry de­liv­ered the re­port for the year, which saw the ladies’ com­mit­tee mak­ing a healthy profit of $1815.45.

Fi­nances will be or­gan­ised dif­fer­ently next year, with a shar­ing of fi­nances be­tween the club’s man­age­ment and the ladies’ com­mit­tee.

The new com­mit­tee for 2017 was an­nounced, with Gle­nis Skin­ner tak­ing on the role of ladies’ pres­i­dent, Linda Terry as cap­tain, Nikki Cof­fey vice­cap­tain, Marion Mitchell sec­re­tary and com­mit­tee mem­bers Don­nalee Ross, Les­ley An­der­son, Judy Camp­bell and Sh­eryl Sargent.

The po­si­tions of vice-pres­i­dent and trea­surer will be filled at a later date from the com­mit­tee.
