Giv­ing re­gional po­lice the fa­cil­i­ties they need

WORKS on up­grad­ing Mt Buller’s po­lice sta­tion are ex­pected to com­mence shortly.

Last week the State Gov­ern­ment an­nounced more than 30 po­lice sta­tions across re­gional Vic­to­ria are be­ing up­graded, re­placed or re­fur­bished.

Al­though it was an­nounced ear­lier this year an up­grade for Mt Buller po­lice sta­tion it has now been con­firmed works will be car­ried out over sum­mer.

As well as sta­tion up­grades be­ing re­placed or re­fur­bished, 10 po­lice res­i­dences to sup­port of­fi­cers liv­ing and work­ing in re­gional towns will also be up­graded.

All 15 sta­tion re­fur­bish­ments are ex­pected to be fin­ished by the mid­dle of 2017.

Premier Daniel An­drews said the gov­ern­ment has also fast-tracked the re­cruit­ment of 406 new po­lice of­fi­cers an­nounced this year to get more of­fi­cers on the beat sooner.

In the next 12 months, around 1000 po­lice, pro­tec­tive ser­vices of­fi­cers and po­lice cus­tody of­fi­cers will be in train­ing at the Vic­to­ria Po­lice Acad­emy.
