Maroondah Highway misses on funds but GV roads do okay
MEMBER for Eildon Cindy McLeish ( MLA, Eildon) has slammed t he State Government for leaving out the Maroondah Highway on a list of North East Victorian road upgrades.
“Despite our communities crying out for their rotting roads to be fixed, Daniel Andrews and his Labor government continue to ignore the Mansfield region,” Ms McLeish said.
Ms McLeish s ai d s he was bit t erl y disappointed the Andrews government had ignored community concerns about the condition of the Maroondah Highway between Merton and Mansfield instead funding roads in the Goulburn Valley.
The government’s $40 million announcement for country roads comes on the back of a $1.8 billion windfall for roads in Melbourne’s Western Suburbs.
“Daniel Andrews continues to ignore the needs of Mansfield motorists, families and businesses and has proven once again he is leading a city-centric government,” she said.
Ms McLeish said it was important for the government to fund road upgrades in the Mansfield region because of safety concerns.
“Motorists in the suburbs may be fed up with lengthy travel times, but motorists in rural areas are concerned for their safety,” she said.
“They know the combination of higher speeds and poorly maintained roads is very dangerous.
“It’s time Daniel Andrews’ government looks beyond the tram tracks and starts working in the interest of all Victorians.”
