Two day farm busi­ness work­shop to be held in Be­nalla

MANS­FIELD pro­duc­ers have the op­por­tu­nity to in­crease their busi­ness and in­dus­try knowl­edge when Meat and Live­stock Aus­tralia (MLA) head to Be­nalla next month.

Busi­ness Edge is a com­pre­hen­sive two-day work­shop run by MLA for own­ers and man­agers of farm busi­nesses with graz­ing en­ter­prises.

Specif­i­cally de­signed t o im­prove busi­ness skills and fi­nan­cial lit­er­acy, Busi­ness Edge work­shops have been run across north­ern Aus­tralia since 2010.

Dur­ing the two days, pro­duc­ers can ex­pect to gain the knowl­edge and skills to:

set up and use man­age­ment ac­counts;

in­ter­pret your fi­nan­cial state­ments and un­der­stand what they are telling you;

un­der­stand the key profit driv­ers for your whole busi­ness, herd and flock;

un­der­stand how to use the busi­ness to fund your fam­ily’s needs and as­pi­ra­tions;

al­lo­cate cap­i­tal in a ra­tio­nal man­ner for a bet­ter re­turn on in­vest­ment; and

as­sess and man­age fi­nan­cial risk.

The work­shop will be pre­sented by Adrian Ken­nelly of RMCG – an agri­cul­tural con­sul­tancy firm.

Mr Ken­nelly is also well known to many in the live­stock in­dus­try, as a pre­vi­ous di­rec­tor of farm busi­ness man­age­ment at Mar­cus Old­ham Col­lege and con­vener of the Mar­cus Old­ham Ru­ral Lead­er­ship Pro­gram.

These days he is a spe­cial­ist farm busi­ness man­age­ment ad­viser, who con­sults to medium to large scale pri­vate farm­ers, agribusi­ness in­vestors, agri­cul­tural in­dus­try groups and gov­ern­ment agen­cies.

“Num­bers per work­shop are lim­ited to en­sure ev­ery­one who at­tends gets one-on-one at­ten­tion and full value for their in­vest­ment of time and money,” Mr Ken­nelly said.

Mr Ken­nelly will team up with well-known live­stock con­sul­tant Phil Holmes to de­liver the work­shop.

Mr Holmes is well-known to many in the live­stock in­dus­tries for his vast knowl­edge and ex­pe­ri­ence of live­stock pro­duc­tion, and as the co-founder of agri­cul­tural con­sult­ing firm, Holmes & Sack­ett.

The fee for t he t wo- day work­shop is $1500 + GST, with dis­counts for early bird reg­is­tra­tions and mul­ti­ple mem­bers of the one farm­ing busi­ness.

The fee in­cludes a com­pre­hen­sive set of course notes, a num­ber of de­ci­sion-sup­port spread sheet tools to help ap­ply the ma­te­rial learned to your busi­ness af­ter the work­shops, as well as lunch, and

morn­ing and after­noon tea on both days.

Fol­low up is avail­able to all par­tic­i­pants.

Ac­knowl­edg­ing t he fee, Mr Ken­nelly said he was so con­fi­dent in the work­shop’s value that a full guar­an­tee was pro­vided.
