Mansfield Courier - - SPORT - By SHANNON CAMERON

A SUNNY day in Echuca was a great day for a strong contest.

Mansfield came out hot with the first two goals.

However, it was quickly apparent that the whole team had their work cut out for them against the top three team, Echuca.

Echuca set up a zone defence which meant Mansfield were forced to work hard and lead strong.

The girls had great intensity in the offensive end with Sarah Walker continually doing some great leads onto the centre passes and providing options around the ring.

Ellie-Rose Kipping using her height continued to provide a fail-safe option into the ring, enabling Steph Ward and Sue Dolling to execute some great goaler rotations to match plenty of Echuca’s goals.

The Echuca players moved fast and effectively, missing very few goals throughout the game.

Great defensive pressure was provided by Rose Hood and Tilly Lang, who continued to work hard without getting discouraged by the scoreboard.

Unfortunately, the scoreboard at the end of the game did not reflect the effort that was put in by all players on the court.

Echuca were very strong in all aspects of their game, but Mansfield certainly had some great areas of play and has demonstrated improvement each week.

THE morning started off early with a l ong drive t o Echuca, and we knew we had a tough game ahead of us but that didn’t stop us trying our best and playing for each other.

The defensive end put a lot of pressure on very accurate shooters and got many tips and intercepts to work in our favour.

Through the mid court there were some great passages of play working the ball out of their defensive setup and our timing, intensity and strong passes were a highlight.

The ball was worked around the ring and fed into the goalers well who moved consistently and worked with each other to create space and they put up many shots and fought hard for the rebounds.

Our thoughts are with Lucie and Emily this week for the loss of their Grandpa.

Thank you to Davon’s Hair and Guardian Pharmacy for their amazing support.

STRETCH: Shannon Cameron reaches out for the ball.
