Li­brary visits

MANSFIELD Li­brary loaned some 4042 items for the month of July. Some 3965 peo­ple vis­ited the Li­brary dur­ing the same month, with 238 chil­dren and 148 adults at­tend­ing at least one of the spe­cialised 21 pro­grams of­fered in-house.

Sale of­fi­cial

THE sale of Re­serve Lot 2, 23 Redgum Drive was set­tled last month. The land is a 140 square me­tre block that was orig­i­nally set aside as a tree re­serve, but with the tree having fallen down some time ago was deemed su­per­flu­ous to coun­cil needs. The rev­enue from the sale will be treated as gen­eral rev­enue.

Weeds and pests

THE Mansfield Shire Coun­cil has com­pleted its Road­side Weeds and Pest Con­trol Pro­gram yearly ac­quit­tal re­port for the State Gov­ern­ment. The re­port is a con­di­tion of the $21,485 fund­ing pro­vided by the State Gov­ern­ment. Mansfield Shire Coun­cil con­trib­uted a fur­ther $20,000 to­wards road­side weed con­trol. In 2017-2018, 135km of road­side weed con­trol works oc­curred in the fol­low­ing ar­eas; An­cona road, Dry Creek road, Glen Creek road, Main­ton­goon road and ad­join­ing roads, Harpers road, John­sons road, Lake Nil­lah­cootie road, Table­top road, Saw­pit Gully road, Reynolds road, Howes Creek road and ad­join­ing roads, Mon­key Gully Road, Howqua River road and Howqua in­let re­gion. A panel of con­trac­tors have been ap­pointed to de­liver road­side weed con­trol works in the up­com­ing 2018-2019 weed con­trol season.

Tiny, but no house

AN in­ves­ti­ga­tion by the Mansfield Shire Coun­cil into a ‘tiny house’ on a farm prop­erty re­vealed that the ‘house’ was in fact legally reg­is­tered as a caravan. The owner was ad­vised that a camp­ing per­mit ap­pli­ca­tion would be re­quired due to the length of time the caravan was be­ing used.

In­no­vate NEVic

FOL­LOW­ING the suc­cess­ful launch of NEVic, Mansfield’s en­trepreneur­s will have plenty of op­por­tu­nity for their start up busi­ness idea. As part of the pro­gram, a num­ber of cour­ses will be run in­clud­ing busi­ness boot camps, men­tor­ing, meet-ups and mas­ter classes thanks to fund­ing from LaunchVic.

Resheet and Re­seal

THE an­nual Mansfield Shire Coun­cil Resheet and Re­seal pro­grams are out to ten­der. The pro­gram is ex­pected to de­liver ap­prox­i­mately 25km of road resheet and 20km of seal re­newal. Plan­ning, sur­vey and de­sign has also com­menced to the Lakins Road bridge re­place­ment pro­gram. The project will be ten­dered in Septem­ber. Also, plan­ning and de­sign for the Bar­wite Road re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion and ma­jor patch­ing pro­gram is un­der­way. This sig­nif­i­cant project is ex­pected to be ten­dered in Septem­ber.

Emailed rates no­tice

THE Mansfield Shire Coun­cil’s push to have rates no­tices de­liv­ered elec­tron­i­cally has so far had 1000 ratepay­ers register. Those that do not will be charged $3 for each ini­tial no­tice they are sent, with $6 charged for re­minders.
