Mansfield gets $1.5m
State Government funding for local roads projects
MANSFIELD is set to benefit from a $1.5 million boost to local roads after a joint funding announcement was made last week.
Visiting town on Friday, Labor Upper House member Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria), announced $1 million in State Government funding – money that will be pooled with $500,000 from the Mansfield Shire Council.
Together, the funds will allow for the completion of not only stage one of the Mansfield Heavy Vehicle Bypass, but also the replacement of the bridge on Lakins Road.
“These projects, funded by the Andrews Labor Government and Mansfield Shire Council, were identified by Mansfield Shire and will improve safety on local roads,” Ms Symes said.
“We know how important road safety is to country Victorians and that is why Labor is investing in local projects to make our roads safer.”
The projects are: replacement of a single lane three tonne load limited timber and steel bridge with a major culvert structure. New structure to be capable of supporting truck and heavy machinery, have safety barriers and be on an improved alignment. The bridge is located at Black Creek, Lakins Road, Mansfield.
Construction of 1.4km pavement and sealing of Dead Horse Lane West, Mansfield from Midland Link to Withers Lane as part of the Mansfield Heavy Vehicle Bypass. Proposed works include road widening, drainage installation (culverts), full depth pavement construction suitable for heavy vehicles, sealing including shoulders, and intersection works to allow B-double turning movements. The project will allow heavy vehicles to safely utilise the road and avoid the Mansfield central business district.
Ms Symes was joined by Labor candidate for Eildon, Sally Brennan, who said safer roads were a benefit to everyone.
Ms Brennan said $333 million has been spent by the State Government this year on repairing, rebuilding and resurfacing 1500 kilometres of country roads – creating more than 650 construction jobs in country Victoria.
