‘Fair’ rates for farmers, with cap and independent inquiry
CINDY McLeish (MLA, Eildon) has announced a Liberal government will cap local government rates for farmers if elected this November.
“Victorian farmers are calling for answers and action after some shires imposed dramatic rate increases this year while other shires passed modest or even reduced farm rates,” Ms McLeish said.
“The Liberals are committed to easing the cost of living, and that includes an assurance of fairer rates for all our farmers.”
Ms McLeish said a Liberal government would establish an independent inquiry into farm rates across the state.
“We will initiate an independent inquiry into farm rates in Victoria and apply the rate cap limit to all rating categories while the inquiry is conducted,” Ms McLeish said.
“The inquiry will be led by terms of reference will direct that the inquiry must deliver actionable recommendations that help to make rates fair for farmers across Victoria.
