Packed with love for our serv­ing troops

OVER the last decade, the Ro­mans have sent more than 2000 care pack­ages to serv­ing troops.

From pack­ets of Tim Tams to por­tions of veg­emite, each par­cel in­cludes more than just the tastes of home; it sym­bol­ises care, re­spect and the ac­knowl­edge­ment of a greater good.

Bill and Jill Ro­mans have been send­ing the pack­ages for more than 10 years, and each and ev­ery one is a re­minder that there are those risk­ing their lives for civil­ians ev­ery­where.

Last week was no ex­cep­tion, when lo­cal school chil­dren ÀRFNHG WR %HROLWH WR KHOS FRP pile an­other 216 pack­ages.

Joined by Bri­gadier David West­phalen, and later Cindy McLeish (MLA, Eil­don), the pack­ages in­cluded all the com­forts of home; from Allen’s Lol­lies to Nescafe sa­chets.

In a scat­ter­ing of parcels were hand writ­ten let­ters, slipped in by stu­dents from St Mary’s, 0DQV¿HOG DQG -DPLHVRQ VFKRROV – each thank­ing the serv­ing troops for their ded­i­ca­tion to the job, and giv­ing a lit­tle snapshot DERXW OLIH LQ 0DQV¿HOG

The Ro­mans would like to ex­tend their deep­est thanks to 0DQV¿HOG )RRGZRUNV 0DQV ¿HOG 5HG &URVV DQG -& 1XWV LQ Mel­bourne for their do­na­tions and sup­port, along with all those who have helped send pack­ages over the years.

“I can’t get over the sup­port we UHFHLYH IURP WKH 0DQV¿HOG FRP mu­nity as a whole,” Bill said.

“We place trol­leys in both su­per­mar­kets early in the piece, DQG WKH\ DUH DOZD\V ¿OOHG XS with do­nated goods be­fore long.”

Oth­ers who also helped with the pack­ages in­clude: the Gun­dowring Red Cross, Jamieson &UDIW *URXS 0DQV¿HOG 3ULQW HUV 0DQV¿HOG 1HZVDJHQF\ 0DQV¿HOG 6HFRQGDU\ &ROOHJH and Be­o­lite Re­tire­ment Vil­lage.
