Remembering those who served from Merrijig

Mansfield Courier - - Remembrance Day -

IT was a small but dedicated crowd that attended the Merrijig Five Pines War Memorial on Sunday to SD\ WULEXWH WR WKRVH ZKR PDGH WKH XOWLPDWH VDFUL¿FH RQ Remembrance Day.

As Peter Howarth explained to those gathered, Remembrance Day was not a celebration of spirit – like Anzac Day – but rather a time to respect and honour those who served.

Students from Merrijig Primary School read the Ode, with Geelong Grammar School musicians playing the last post on violin – adding a haunting effect to the service.

SMALL BUT DEDICATED: The crowds at Remembrance Day are always smaller than those at Anzac services, but around 50 people still turned up to pay their respects at the Merrijig Five Pines War Memorial on Sunday.
