Teaming up to plan for fire
MANSFIELD Shire and the alpine resorts are no strangers to fire and with a very hot and dry summer upon us, planning for fire takes a very important role in ensuring the safety of our communities, resorts and environment.
The Mansfield Shire and Mt Buller Mt Stirling
Fire Management Planning Committees joined forces at an inaugural integrated meeting on January 21.
The new Integrated Fire Management Planning Committee (IFMPC) is expected to strengthen relationships and facilitate collaboration in planning for the prevention of fires across public and private land tenures for all types of fire.
Fire management planning aims to reduce the impact of fire and brings together the CFA, DELWP, Council, Alpine Resort Management Board and BSL officers along with other identified organisations and community representation.
The IFMPC members recognise that strong, established relationships significantly contribute to effective response and quick recovery.
Cr Marg Attley chaired the inaugural meeting and thanked all in attendance and highlighted the importance of combined local approaches.
“This new Integrated
Fire Management Planning Committee sets an example for future collaborations between Mansfield Shire and the alpine resorts,” she said.
A key role of fire management planning committees is to collaborate on the development and delivery of a Fire Management Plan which documents fire prevention, suppression and recovery strategies for all types of fire risk to meet the needs of local communities.
The committee will regularly review local risks and plan for mitigation and response.
The IFMPC will report up to the Hume Region Strategic Fire Management Planning Committee, which in turn reports up to a state committee for regional and state planning purposes.
