Mansfield Courier - - Courier Sport - By PETER SCALES

MANSFIELD’S Delatite CC under 16 team headed off early on Saturday morning in convoy for the long road trip to Rutherglen.

Upon arrival and inspection of the wicket skipper Lachy Scales won the toss and elected WR EDW ¿UVW

Openers Tom Dunstan and Sam Bell started solidly against some fearsome new-ball bowling with the ball seaming around quite a bit.

Bell got one that jagged back sharply and he ‘chopped on’ for a gritty four runs.

Luke Berriman joined Dunstan and the pair knuckled down for a superb 50 run partnership.

They found the gaps and ran between the wickets with gusto before Dunstan was bowled out for 26 in the 18th over.

Jonathon LeBroque entered the arena and quickly settled into his innings, adding another dozen runs with Berriman before the latter was caught and bowled, Kurt Schmidt taking the very sharp chance just centimetres off the turf.

Berriman’s top-scoring 27 was a very polished performance as his run of good form continues.

Scales joined LeBroque who by now was set, playing some daring drives and cunning cuts.

The pair added 40 more runs to the tally when LeBroque (22) was stumped as he attempted to lift the run rate, the score now 4/113 in the 33rd over.

Austin Scott came in at number six and immediately showed intent to score.

Scales was run out in the scramble for late runs for an enterprising 21, which included an audacious reverse cut which nearly took the ¿HOGHU¶V ¿QJHUV RII

Max Lange (11 not out) and Scott (20) then pushed on through WKH ¿QDO RYHUV WDNLQJ FDOFXODWHG risks with their shot selection and running which paid off, the pair lifting the score to 6/152 after the allotted 42 overs.
