Sport star lands January nominee
BRIDGETTE Fox has excelled across multiple VSRUWLQJ ¿HOGV LQ UHFHQW times – landing her numerous awards including best and fairest, and runners-up.
However, more recently, she has been named the January nominee for Sportsperson of the Year.
At 17 years old, Bridgette has managed to dedicate her time across a range of sports – including football, netball, basketball and rowing.
She is currently completing year 12 at boarding school in Melbourne – and despite this, she has loaded her plate with sport.
Recently she was accepted into the Oakleigh Chargers football team earlier this year.
“It was always a dream of hers,” said Bridgette’s mum, Maree Fox.
Last weekend, she played KHU ¿UVW JDPH ± DQG GHVSLWH EHLQJ RQ WKH ¿HOG LQ WKH degree heat, she put on a spectacular performance as a PLG¿HOGHU DQG NHSW WKH EDOO WUDYHOOLQJ GRZQ WKH ¿HOG
Maree says that originally, Bridgette started off as a football umpire.
Through observation, she learned to love the game.
“She’s very excited,” said Maree.
On weekends, she still loves to come back home to 0DQV¿HOG DQG FDWFK XS ZLWK her friends through sport.
6KH RIWHQ ¿OOV LQ IRU Bonnie Doon Netball Club, having been a part of two of the U17 girls’ premierships.
Back at school, she is the sport captain – ensuring that all things sports and athletics run smoothly.
She is a part of the rowing team at school, and has been extremely successful, after spending hours of her time training.
Coming up, she has Head of School Girls – a rowing event which sees all the top school rowing teams across the state go head to head.
“She is very much looking forward to it,” said Maree.
On top of this, she will also be heading to Sydney later this month for the National Rowing Championships.
While down in school, she also competes in a fun basketball competition, which she loves.
Bridgette has also competed in junior basketball and netball competitions that KDYH EHHQ KHOG LQ 0DQV¿HOG throughout her childhood.
“She is very dedicated,” said Maree.
“She’s always loved sport. “We’re (Maree and Stuart Fox, parents) very proud of her.”
