Council changes budget process to gather ideas early
DO you have an idea for the community?
If it aligns with the Council Plan and has community benefit, Mansfield Shire Council would like to hear from you.
Council will seek community input into the 2020 – 2021 budget earlier than usual, and started with their stand at the bush market on Saturday.
Mansfield Shire Council mayor Harry Westendorp said councillors will listen to, and capture, the community’s ideas for the budget.
“After receiving over 230 submissions on our draft budget this year, we decided to start the process early for next year,” he said.
“We are asking for the community’s input between November and early January.
“People can talk to us at any time.
“In mid-November, the online submission site on our website will open for written submissions.”
Cr Westendorp said the decision reflects the strategic directions from the Council Plan.
“We want to increase participation and partnerships with the community,” he said.
“From this year’s experience we know that our residents and ratepayers have great ideas that contribute to building an inclusive, dynamic and prosperous place with strong community spirit.
“By asking for the ideas now, it gives the community time to put together the information we will need to consider in order to shape how we allocate our budget.”
The community will also have the opportunity to make submissions when the draft budget is released in April next year.
