Seussical, another amazing musical
MMUDS’ production Seussical kicked off on the weekend to great success.
Mansfield’s star director Karen Pirie and her team outdid themselves again, putting on an amazing show for all ages.
Steiner teacher Jen O’Donnell killed as the Cat in the Hat in the lead, with her own daughter Orvokki Britton playing second fiddle as Jojo.
Michael Isbister put in a typical class effort as Horton the Elephant, side by side with Judy Dixon as Gertrude McFuzz, constantly nipping at his heels and almost stealing the show.
For the singing, it was hard to miss Maria Lieberth as the Sour Kangaroo, with an amazing voice that brought thunderous applause.
The show interweaves several Dr Seuss classics into its plotline.
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks”.
Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the
Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.
Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.
Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
Seussical will be playing until November 16, so if you haven’t got your tickets yet, you better hurry: www. mmuds.org.au.
