Close battle for Medal of Medallist
APOLOGIES if you were looking for the ladies golf report last week – “Murphy” got in the way.
So here’s all the news of the last fortnight and it has been a fairly busy and fun time on the golf course.
Our annual Medal of Medallist event had top billing in these weeks – contested between all those ladies who have won Monthly Medals in the previous 12 months.
It was a close-run battle, but Sue Parsons was victorious on the day with a lovely net 72.
Donna Sedgman and Millie Cumming both just missed out with net 73.
For all the many Monthly Medals that Sue has won, it happens that this was her first Medal of Medallist win so she was delighted to finally claim one.
Other winners that day were Jenny Foster winning Division 2 on a countback from Marion Mitchell, both with net 75.
Last Wednesday was our October Monthly Medal, sponsored by Sanae’s Collections.
Winner with net 72 was Lyn Poulson.
Lyn also claimed the Division 2 prize.
Division 1 was won by Donna Sedgman with net 73 and runner up Linda Terry net 76.
Division 2 runner up was Louise CalvertJones.
Line balls went to Sam Bailey, Robyn Baker and Shirley Nolan all on net 76, Gayle Wells 78, Norma Friday and Lesley Anderson both 79.
Nearest the pins went to Lorraine Cullen on the third and 16th, Gayle Wells on the seventh, closest third shot on the 18th to Sam Bailey and the putting to Sue Wilson.
Thursday’s nine-hole winner was Kay Rose with 14 points and on Monday, Mansfield hosted the monthly North East Veterans round.
Cleaning up for the ladies was our own Robyn Baker with a fantastic 40 points.
With the home ground advantage, the next three places were also grabbed by Mansfield girls – second was Marion Sargeant with 33, third was Marion Mitchell with 31 on a countback, and fourth place Linda Terry also with 31.
Not surprisingly with her great score, Robyn Baker also picked up the prize for the Hidden Holes.
Away from home we also had some success with Linda Brook winning C Grade at the Marysville Tournament.
We wrapped up October with our club presentation function which immediately followed the conclusion of the men’s championships on the Sunday afternoon.
Congratulations to men’s club champion Mark Jones and of course to our ladies champion, Marg Knapp.
