Upgrade for JamiesonLicola Road starting soon

THE dust will soon settle for Jamieson-Licola Road residents when a safety upgrade to seal a 5.65 kilometre stretch of the gravel road gets under way in mid-November.

Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) said the Labor Government is investing $871,000 through the Fixing Country Roads Program for the much-needed project.

“We’ve heard the community wants to see as much of this gravel road sealed as possible – that’s why sealed pavement will now extend from town to the last of the residential properties,” Ms Symes said.

“We’re giving drivers a smoother and safer journey through Jamieson – whether they’re locals heading home or visitors travelling through to the Alps.”

The upgrade will give locals a smoother and safer journey as potholes, corrugations, dust and rough surface are filled and smoothed as part of the road sealing upgrade.

In addition to the new 5.65km of sealed road, further improvements include new regulatory and curve warning signage, guideposts, minor drainage works and some tree trimming to improve visibility.

Once works are complete, a speed review will be undertaken in response to community calls to ensure the most appropriate speed is set for that stretch of road.

Construction is expected for completion prior to Christmas, with final signage installation undertaken early in 2020.

The $100 million Fixing Country Roads Program assists rural and regional Victorian councils to carry out important road rehabilitation and resealing works, road safety improvements, bridge strengthening and other upgrades.
