Stevenson and Mahoney star for Delatite
THE Delatite 1st XI scored a comprehensive win in last Saturday’s round five of WDCA ‘A’ Grade cricket when they dismissed the Wangaratta Magpies for a paltry 44 runs from just 22 overs at the Norm Minns Oval, Wangaratta.
The Magpies won the toss and batted on what appeared to be a bowler’s paradise as Delatite speedster Matt Stevenson cut a swathe of terror through the hapless Magpie batting line-up.
Stevenson took a match-winning 5/6 from eight overs in what proved to be a matchwinning performance.
He was backed up with praiseworthy fielding from his colleagues, particularly wicket-keeper Earl Ree-Goodings, who seemed to have the ball on a string as he gleefully accepted four catches from the Delatite pacemen.
Wickets were also taken by Lachie Scales (2/18), Mitch Purcell (1/2) and Brett Mahoney (1/12).
Delatite commenced the run-chase but also found that the wicket was indeed bowlerfriendly as the Magpie strike bowler, Dylan Landgren, took three quick wickets to have Delatite reeling at 3/22.
Brett Mahoney had different ideas though and his impressive innings of 68 runs was the catalyst for the Mansfield team as he occupied the crease for nearly two hours.
Delatite finished their innings to be all out for 128 and were euphoric as they achieved their second win for the season to occupy sixth position on the ‘A’ Grade ladder.
Next week sees the Delatite lads hosting the Yarrawonga-Mulwala team in what could well prove to be an upset should Delatite continue their winning ways.
This week’s BP Advantage Fuels player-of-the-match goes to Matt Stevenson with his outstanding figures of 5/6.
