Under 16s win well at home
MANSFIELD’S Delatite Cricket Club under 16 side completed their Round 5 match against Ovens Valley CC at the resplendent Lords ground on Saturday.
The previous Saturday the home side put in a superb bowling and fielding effort, dismissing Ovens for just 55 with J Jones making the bulk of the runs with 33.
Skipper Sam Bell, Billy Dunstan and Luke Berriman snagged two wickets apiece while Mick Burrows and Aussie Scott took one each.
The run chase began in earnest on week one, Delatite finishing on 2/38 at stumps.
They picked up where they left off on week two, passing the target of 55 comfortably and moving on to post a substantial total of 153.
Top scorer was Archie Storer with 44, with even contributions of 15, 17, 19 and 22 by Jake Berry, Berriman, Scott and Bell.
An impressive 10 not out in his first game was registered by Ty Stower.
Ovens had another bat for eight overs and the runs flowed freely, the day ending with them on 1/48, the sole wicket collected by debutant Stower who sent the bails flying.
O’Malley Pizza Award player of the match goes to Storer for his highest score to date.
Next round the Mansfield lads take on Greta at the Benalla Showgrounds before having a well-earned Christmas break.
