Christmas comes early for under 14s

Mansfield Courier - - Sport - By MAX ‘TAXI’ MAHONEY

WITH a full list of 13, Delatite took on the boys from Greta.

Losing the toss we were sent into bat, but this wasn’t too bad with Berry and Mahoney starting well.

With the wicket of Berry (6) it brought Buchanan to the crease.

He started slow but was able to keep his ‘not out’ form going before retiring with the opener of Mahoney (18).

This lead Morris and Reardon out to the middle but they were not able to trouble the score with some good bowling from Greta.

Storer (14), Cleeland (19) and little Murray (15) kept the score card ticking over to help Delatite to a strong position of seven for 116 off the 21 overs bowled.

After a great morning tea it was time for Greta to bat, but they faced some great bowling from Dean finishing with figures of two for two off two overs.

Some other great bowling spells came from Elliott picking up a big scalp as well as from Berriman and Cleeland helping knock off the tail enders.

With the game wrapped up with one bowl to go the whole team moved into the slip positions (not something you see too often in cricket).

Unfortunately we didn’t pick up the wicket but a lot of shouting and yahooing finished off the match.

Overall the game was played with fun and laughter with Delatite coming out the victors keeping Greta’s score to seven for 76 after 21 overs.

Next week the boys take on top of the table Yarrawonga, so hopefully we can give Ken ‘Santa Claus’ Murray an early Christmas bonus.
