Delatite A Grade brings home the points against Ovens Valley

Mansfield Courier - - Courier Sport - By PETER SCALES

MANSFIELD’S Delatite Circk Club A Grade side travelled to Myrtleford on Saturday to take on Ovens Valley CC in a one-dayer.

The game was originally meant to be a two-day match, however, play was not possible on the previous Saturday due to the fire situation.

The hosts won the toss and batted first and put on what was a respectable 151 runs from their allotted 40 overs.

The Delatite bowlers all contributed well with stand-out performances from Joe Cousins who picked up three wickets and Brett Mahoney who completed his eight overs with the miserly figures of 1/15 including four maidens.

Lachy Scales, skipper Mitch Purcell and veteran Aaron Madsen all picked up a wicket apiece, and Patrick Smith starred in the field with an athletic runout.

The run chase started shakily with two Delatite batsmen back in the sheds for just 17 runs.

Opener Nick Scales and Brett Mahoney steadied the ship with a superb 78 run partnership, before a mix up saw Mahoney run out for a punishing 57.

Scales was out shortly afterwards for a resolute 37.

Adam Mahoney and Chris ‘Fatty’ Anderson also plundered the bowling, both finishing unbeaten on 37, to overhaul and pass the target, the innings reaching 6/187 after 40 overs.

The BP Vantage Fuels award goes to Brett Mahoney for his superb all-round performance.

This was a great win on the road and consolidates the side in fourth position on the WDCA ladder heading into a run of home games at Lords over the coming six weeks.
