Australia Day in the High Country
THERE was a big turnout for the Australia Day Celebrations in Mansfield on Sunday.
Citizen awards went out to Des Dunn, representing the Merrijig Hall Committee, Rory Jenkins, Noel Willaton and Peter Coffey, with brand new citizens Hannah Blondell and Jiaqu Zhu welcomed as fully fledged Aussies.
PERFECT DAY: A nice crowd turned out on Sunday to celebrate Australia Day in Mansfield.
AND THE BAND PLAYED: The MAD orchestra.
ALL RISE: Mansfield Shire singing the national anthem.
WELCOME: New Australian residents conferred on the day were (from left) Hannah Blondell from Britain, and Jiaqu Zhu from the Peoples Republic of China.
ADVOCATE: The founder of the Afghan Australian Development Organisation Dr Nouria Salehi was this year’s Australia Day Ambassador in Mansfield, pictured with Mayor Marg Attley.
BEST BLOKE: Mansfield’s Citizen of the Year Peter Coffey, with Mayor Marg Attley.
HONOURED: This year’s Mansfield Senior Citizen of the Year award was well earned by Noel Willaton.
TOP YOUTH: Rory Jenkins, Young Citizen of the Year.
OUR LOCAL MP: Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish.
BIG COMMUNITY: Des Dunn, representing the Merrijig Hall Committee, which was awarded the Community Event of the Year for the hugely successful 2019 Merrijig War Memorial Service.
MOST IMPORTANT MEAL: Rotary offered up a free breakfast for all.
