Interschools postponed again

-

IN a statement made by Mogul Ski World and Mt Buller on August 11, and the announcement that COVID-19 restrictions would continue until August 18, a decision was made to cancel the Victorian Interschool Championships for the original dates set.

However, Snow Australia Interschools will now consult with the school community about the option to reschedule the 2021 Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools event to the dates originally scheduled for the Australian Interschool Championships at Mt Buller from September 8-12.

The Australian Interschools Championships were cancelled the week prior to this announcement due to continuing COVID lockdowns in NSW and Queensland which prohibited students from crossing the borders into Victoria.

“The current snow season has provided many challenges for the Australian snow industry and the Interschools community alike,” Mogul Ski World announced.

“Snow Australia Interschools and Mt Buller continue to review the directives from the Victorian Government, on the regulations regarding Interschools activities and events.”

With the announcement that the current lockdown for metro Melbourne is to be extended until at least Thursday, August 18, it was clear that it was no longer possible to provide certainty to school and resort communities regarding the conduct of the 2021 Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools event scheduled for August 23-29.

“Accordingly, it is with significant disappointment that we confirm that the Victorian Interschools event will not proceed on the August 23-29 dates,” the statement said.

This will be done by way of survey to schools’ snowsports coordinators, to be sent out shortly, with a decision that will consider the feedback from the broader interschool community.

Schools, families and student athletes unable to attend a rescheduled event will be entitled to a refund regardless of whether the event goes ahead or not.

Snow Australia thanked schools, competitors and organisers for their continued understanding and support during this incredibly challenging time.
