Golf returns into some fine weather

THE number of golfers returning to the Mansfield Golf Club course last week was very promising particular­ly after yet another lockdown due to the COVID restrictio­ns and some bad weather.

But as the week went on the numbers grew and some great golf competitio­n was seen on course.

Tuesday’s competitio­n was a stroke event with a field of 23 players.

The winner was Brad Grant (10) with a nett 71 from Tony Crawford (4) with a nett 73.

Line balls went down to nett 81 on a countback.

The nearest the pins on the par threes were: Phil Conway on the third and seventh, Brad Grant on the ninth, Tony Crawford on the 12th and Bill Parsons on the 16th.

Nearest the pin second shot the eighteenth was Steve Chisholm.

Thursday’s competitio­n was a Stableford event with 56 competitor­s out on a soft but drying track.

The winner of Division One was Taki Murakami (9) with 38 points from Alex Scherini (9) 36 points.

The winner of Division Two was Steve Daykin (15) also with 38 points from Paul Norris (25) with 36 points on a countback.

The nearest the pins were Taki Murakami on the third, Peter Vallance on the seventh, Don Clutterbuc­k on the ninth, Oli Pearson on the 12th and Steve Daykin on the 16th.

The NTP second shot on the 18th was Kyle Bridgman.

Ball rundown went to 32 points on a countback.

The rabbits for the day were Martin Slack (again) and Alan Parrott.

Saturday’s event was a Stableford with 34 players out enjoying some late winter sunshine.

The winner was Mark Jones (3) with 36 points from Maurie Walsh (10) with 34 points on a countback.

The nearest the pins were Alex Scherini on the third,

Brad Grant on the seventh, Maurie Walsh on the ninth, Peter Vallance on the 12th and Jarrod Hearth on the 16th.

The nearest the pin second shot on the eighteenth was Kane Blunt.

Line balls went down to 28 points on a countback.

The Hidden Holes went to Maurie Walsh on a countback.
