Tony flies into ‘Birds in Art’ for 9th time
WORLD renowned bird artist Tony Pridham will again feature in the highly prestigious ‘Birds in Art’ exhibition in the USA.
Of the approximately 1000 works submitted from artists around the world each year, less than 100 are accepted for this exhibition.
Tony’s featured piece is titled “Lady Elliott Magic” and will go on exhibition from September 11.
An exceptional painting which Tony recently completed is titled ‘Amazonia’ because the Amazon was being logged and burned at the time Tony and his partner Nicki Goudberg were there.
“If you look closely at the eye of the hummingbird - it has the reflection of a logging machine clearing the jungle,” Nicki said.
“We are thrilled that Tony has once again been internationally recognised as one of the world’s leading artists in this genre.”
“Our goal in going to Ecuador to study hummingbirds was that they are seriously lacking in Australia and hold a fascination for both Nicky and I,” Tony said.
“The trip to Ecuador was as hummingbird-infested as we could have wished.
“We were fortunate enough to spend seven days studying 30 different species, plus of course ‘ancillary’ species such as Toucanets, assorted Tanagers, Quetzels and Mot Mots.”
This is Tony’s 10th time he has submitted to the Birds in Art exhibition and his 9th for being accepted - the most of any Australian artist.
Since 1976, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum has organised Birds in Art annually, seeking to present the very best contemporary artistic interpretations of birds and related subject matter.
Artwork from 113 artists from throughout the world will be included in the 46th annual Birds in Art exhibition 2021, on view Saturday, September 11 through to November 28.
The exhibition includes 21 who were named Master Artists during previous Birds in Art exhibitions, and 92 artists whose work was selected by the jury.
Birds in Art, which presents original paintings, sculptures and graphics created within the last three years by worldwide artists, once again celebrates avian marvels through fresh artistic interpretations.
