Mansfield cyclists pedal for suicide prevention

-

LAST Friday was World Suicide Prevention Day, and Mansfield Social Cyclists pedalled for Wellways Shepparton’s challenge to cycle 3318km as a mark of respect to the 3318 lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2019.

World Suicide Prevention Day is an awareness day occurring on September 10 each year in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities taking place around the world since 2003.

An estimated one million people per year die by suicide or about one person in 10,000.

Wellways put forward a call to action to take part in Break The Cycle (with a twist) with staff, participants, family, friends and communities coming together to contribute to the challenge.

Our Mansfield group of 12 riders rode 25km each during the morning, another member rode 30km in the afternoon and two other friends each walked four kilometres to total 338km; a significant contribution to Wellways Shepparton’s Break The Cycle challenge.
