WDJFL cancel remainder of season
THE Wangaratta and District Junior Football League has cancelled the remainder of the 2021 season.
It follows the recent state government announcement that football could commence training only with no matches to be played pending future public health advice.
In the announcement league manager Cam Green said the league’s priority will remain with the communities their clubs rely on during a challenging year.
“The WDJFL would like to thank all clubs and the WDJFL Advisory Committee for their consultation and consideration, not just during this decision-making process, but for the entire season that has seen many difficult decisions made,” Green said.
“Each individual club president has remained understanding at times where there have been many factors working against the WDJFL.
“The nature in which clubs adapted to these changes sometimes inside 24 hours was exemplary and the manner in which they were led by their club presidents should be acknowledged.”
The league will not award premierships or medallions in 2021, however, minor premiers, best and fairest and other individual awards will be officially recognised at a date yet to be determined.
The WDJFL further acknowledged support from Insite Real Estate, Wangaratta Trophies and Engravers, Chisholm Partners, Nutrien Harcourts, Phoenix Designs and NuFruit.
