Support for local businesses still lacking: Haines

-

WHILE she welcomed business support packages announced for Victoria late last week, Helen Haines (MHR, Indi) said they needed to go further.

The $2.27 billion package of grants, jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments, are designed to help small and medium-sized businesses in the weeks until Victoria reaches the 80 per cent COVID-19 vaccination rate.

The funding package aims to support businesses most affected by pandemic restrictions as Victoria reaches the 70 per cent, then 80 per cent fully vaccinated thresholds.

More than 160,000 businesses are expected to receive assistance.

Dr Haines said while she welcomed the packages, “what was missing from those packages yet again, after all of these months, was very direct recognition of the extreme stress businesses have been suffering for all of this time”.
