Ladies golf returns with round robin

- By LINDA TERRY

WE are ever grateful to be out playing golf and enjoying all the social aspects of our game, though of course we are all looking forward to the day when we can get back to playing official competitions.

In the meantime the ladies do manage to have lots of fun and friendly rivalry and to compete in the social sense.

The teams’ round robin we kicked off on Wednesday saw wins going to the teams of the Delta Divas, the A Zees, The Trio, Here’s Hoping and The Vaccinated.

Meanwhile great scores of 36 points were put in by Linda Brook and Sheryl Sargent to win the day, with a bit of a gap to the next best of Gayle Wells on 31 and Marg Knapp, Sue Parsons and Sam Bailey with 30 points.

On Saturday, Rod and Sheryl Sargent organised a mixed Ambrose event and it was fantastic to see 28 mixed pairs playing in beautiful spring conditions.

For the ladies, the minor prizes were well shared around.

Nearest the pins went to Jenny Foster, Linda Terry, Heather Anderson and Shelly Comerford, while Millie Cumming won the straightest drive.

For the mixed Ambrose, it was the organiser himself Rod Sargent, along with playing partner Linda Terry, who topped the field with nett 64.5.

Both claim they were carried by the other, but the reality was a great sharing around of the game saving shots.

Runners up were Donna Sedgman and Kyle Bridgeman with Lesley Anderson and Paul Cougle securing third.

Line-balls went to Nicki Cooper/ Fletcher Cooper, Alan Parrot/Colleen Leeds, Glenis Skinner/Phil Conway, Lyn Poulson/Geoff Brown and Shelly Comerford/Brad Grant.

It’s always great to see the men and women golfing together and special thanks to Rod o instigating and organising the day.

This coming week sees the continuation of the teams’ league and we are also starting to put together plans for new ladies beginner clinics, so watch this space.
