EMILA CLARKE

-

WHEN I WAS LITTLE , my mum taught me to cleanse, tone and moisturise. It’s always been my thing. I’m that weirdo who – even when blackout drunk – will remove my makeup and cleanse my face. I’ll wake up feeling awful but my skin is thanking me.

I DO A DOUBLE CLEANSE . I use Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm, which is an oil cleanser. It is amazing for when I’m working on set. I’ll use an oil cleanser to take off all the makeup first and then use the Cleansing Milk to cleanse. The champion for me then is the Clinique Clarifying Lotion. Once you’ve got clean skin, you’re giving it a fighting chance to be able to look its best. I then use Clinique’s 100-hour moisturiser, it’s just incredible.

We talk to the stunning ‘Game of Thrones’ actor about her updated skincare routine, life on the red carpet and when she feels her most beautiful

I’VE ALSO ADDED Clinique’s Smart Clinical Repair Wrinkle Correcting Serum and it is the bomb. [As a Clinique ambassador] I’m at the point in life when I’m like, “OK, I’m going to buy a product that says ‘wrinkle’ on it.” It has hyaluronic acid and retinoid and it’s not scary. It re-plumps and resurfaces my skin.

FOR DAY, I wear a tinted moisturiser. It’s enough that it makes me feel like I’ve done something but my friends don’t think I have makeup on. Then I will do a very fine liquid liner on my lash line and a little tiny flick at the end, so it gives you that wide-eyed look. Then mascara and lip balm and that’s it. I might put a little nude shadow on as well, to give my eyes a little definition.

I FEEL MY MOST BEAUTIFUL when I’m not thinking about feeling beautiful. When I’m out with my mates, when I’m helping my mum out, when I’m doing something so absorbing that I am the last thought on my mind. I definitely don’t feel my most beautiful when I’m meant to!

IT’S A VERY DIFFICULT THING being on the red carpet or doing a photo shoot. I pray that [those images] don’t make [other women] think “that photoshopped image of that girl in that magazine is what I’m meant to look like”. Individuality – that’s where beauty lies.

IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY JOB I HAVE, I add a new calming ritual to my routine to level out the panic. I meditate, I do my yoga, I prioritise sleep – and the only thing that happens in my bed is sleeping. I have separate rooms for separate things. I have an office where I do my work. Allocating different bits of your house and saying, “That’s where I do that busy thing and that’s where I do that chill thing” helps keep you calm.
